Multi-Factor Authentication — Frequently Asked Questions
- What if I can’t access my MFA method?
- Email is always available as a backup. On the MFA verification screen, look for an option to verify by email instead. A one-time code will be sent to your registered email address. If you cannot access your email either, contact your property manager or support to have your MFA enrollment reset.
- Does MFA affect my wallet-based credential (Resident Key)?
- Yes. MFA is required in order to use wallet-based credentials. If MFA is not set up on your account, you will not be able to add your Resident Key to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Sites that use Resident Key will always have MFA enabled — this is an Apple requirement.
- Do I need to set up MFA separately for each site?
- No. MFA is tied to your user account, not to each individual site. Once enrolled, your method applies to all sites that require MFA. You may be prompted to verify when switching to an MFA-required site, but you will not need to re-enroll.
- Can my site turn off MFA once it is enabled?
- No. Once MFA is enabled for a site, it cannot be turned off. This is especially true for sites using wallet-based credentials (Resident Key), where MFA is an Apple requirement.
- Can I choose whether to use MFA?
- No. MFA is enabled at the site level by the administrator or integrator. If your site requires MFA, all users must complete MFA verification to log in. Individual users cannot opt in or out.
- What happens if my admin enables MFA while I’m already logged in?
- Your current session will not be interrupted. On your next login, you will be required to complete MFA enrollment before you can access the site.
- I log into Zentra using biometrics (fingerprint or face). Can I also use biometrics for MFA?
- No — biometrics can be used as your login method or as your MFA method, but not both at the same time. If you log in with biometrics as your password and MFA is required, you will need a separate second factor. If biometrics is your only enrolled MFA method, you will be required to use email as your MFA verification instead.
- Can my administrator see my MFA methods?
- Administrators can view the MFA methods registered for a user by navigating to that user’s profile page and scrolling to the bottom. If you are locked out and cannot complete MFA, contact your administrator or support for assistance resetting your MFA enrollment.
