Using Your Wallet-Based Credential
Accessing a door
- Wake your device (you do not need to open any app).
- Hold your phone or watch near the NFC reader on the door.
- A checkmark on your screen means your device communicated with the reader.
- The door will unlock if you have the required access permission.
Authentication requirements
Device | Default behavior | Can it be changed? |
iPhone with Express Mode on (default) | No authentication required before tapping | Yes, in Apple Wallet settings |
iPhone with Express Mode off | Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode required each tap | Yes, in Apple Wallet settings |
Android | Device must be unlocked before tapping | Yes, in Google Wallet settings |
Express Mode is turned on by default on Apple devices. This means you can tap the reader by simply waking your screen — no Face ID or passcode needed.
What the checkmark means
A checkmark on your screen confirms that your device communicated with the reader. It does
not
guarantee the door unlocked. If you see a checkmark but the door does not open, contact your property manager to verify your access permissions.Using your wallet-based credential with a dead battery
Device | Behavior |
iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, and newer | Express Mode with power reserve works for up to 5 hours after the battery is depleted |
Older iPhone models | Device must have charge |
Android | Device must be on and unlocked — offline tapping is not supported |
